Smiles to Go

In honor of World Smile Day coming up on October 3rd,

we celebrate Harvey Ball, the graphic artist and creator of (ta-da)

THE smiley face.

Harvey drew the original smiley face 50 years ago.

Pain and misery are out there… but, guess what?

You can actually find smiles anywhere!

Just for the FUN of it… here’s a slide share of original photographs of smiles and smiley faces.

The pics were taken all over the world (mostly) by Gold Coast Giggles founder Barbara Grapstein and (some) by me.

You brought an amazing memory to the surface for me. When I was in elementary school, Miss Teelander decorated her first grade classroom with Happy Faces everywhere! Bulletin boards, door decorations, pencils etc. I had never seen a happy face before and thought it was marvelous. In those days teachers didn’t do things like that. Thank you for bringing a smile to my happy face today.

I have always loved the smiley face. In fact, I own a McCoy smiley face cookie jar and mug set. A classic.

Was always fascinated by Smiles. My cousin sister who was 4 yrs old came and told me that who smiles seeing you first wants to be your friend. From that I started noticing everyone and everywhere who was smiling first. Is it me or the person whom I am meeting or seeing. ..

It’s so funny but since the smiley face has been around as long as I have been it never dawned on me that a person actually created it (I know, pretty silly, but true!) Thanks for a fun post! 🙂
